Competition : Castell Deudraeth, Portmeirion

hotel : Castell Deudraeth Portmeirion : exterior (300x300) Castell Deudraeth is part of the Portmeirion village estate in Snowdonia, but has its own personality and ambience.

This stylish boutique hotel was built in early Victorian times by David Williams, the first Liberal MP for Meirioneth. He went to town on his lavish home, creating a fantastical structure with tall castellations and powerful Gothic influences.

The mansion was bought by Sir Clough Williams Ellis in 1931. His dream of turning it into a smart hotel only came to fruition in 2001, when it was opened by Bryn Terfel, following a  number of incarnations, such as a prep school and upmarket apartments.
